Celsius Brighton Gravel

GPX for your head unit can be downloaded here.

This is our favourite way to ride from London to Brighton while spending as little time on tarmac as possible. Start out in Richmond park and head around the Tamsin trail to Kingston gate. From there make your way through Kingston and over the bridge, you can then ride along the river to Hampton Court. After Hampton Court there is a bit of road to Esher, but after that you don't see much tarmac until Shoreham. From Esher follow the route around Cobham and up the road parallel to Staple Lane - this is the by far the biggest climb on the route and it can be a bit bumpy depending on the weather and time of year.

If you are ready for a coffee break then we suggest riding down Combe Lane and going to The Dabbling Duck in Shere. If not then continue on the route towards Guildford where you join the Downs Link. This is a disused railway line that goes all the way to the seaside, it's very flat with only a couple of short raises and a good surface throughout. You will stay on here for over 50km to Shoreham, which should take around 2 hours without pauses.

After the Downs Link the route takes a bit of dive as there are no gravel paths (that we're aware of) from Shoreham to Brighton. Follow the main road east and you will arrive in Brighton after about 10km. If you want fish and chips in Brighton then we can vouch for RYBKA (the fish likes to swim) and Little Jack Fullers. Both are excellent but make sure you don't get there too late or they might have run out of fish!
